Anagran FR-1000

Since Larry Roberts led the ARPANET design team almost 40 years ago to build the first wide-area packet switched network, basic packet routing and forwarding architectures have remained unchanged. During that same 4-decade span, the nature of the information transmitted and shared over The Internet has evolved dramatically. Finally, Anagran has developed a powerful, economical standard Layer 3 product platform truly designed for today's and tomorrow's video-dominated rich media network traffic - the FR-1000 Intelligent Flow Manager.

Designed without the constraints of traditional packet-based architecture principles to economically transport video and rich quad-play traffic, the FR-1000 features a number of unique technological advances in standard Layer 3 IP networking. These key innovations include Fast Flow Technology™ (FFT), Intelligent Flow Discard™ (IFD), and Behavioral Traffic Control™ (BTC). Compact, powerful, and extremely energy-efficient and cost-effective, the FR-1000 represents a new class of network edge device that instantly reduces ongoing operations and transmission costs as well as capital equipment expense.   • Instant Network Congestion Relief: Adding an FR-1000 wherever network congestion occurs eliminates congestion to instantly improve application performance and service quality.  Downstream routers perform better.
  • High Quality of Experience for Streaming Media: When loss-susceptible traffic like IPTV and VoIP overload their capacity, packet discard creates noise, jitter, and freeze-frame in all flows.  IFD selectively invokes call admission control (CAC) on specific flows only; either the lowest priority or the most recent, for sustained high quality voice and video even during periods of intense user demand.
  • Bulk Data and P2P Management: Managing flow rates by service class with BTC throttles bandwidth-hungry traffic like P2P to allow all services (including P2P!) to flourish even when network links become congested.
